A Recipe for Keeping Warm

Today I woke up to about 4 inches of snow, and a phone call telling me not to go to work!

So I decided that as I was up anyway (at 6.30 I might add!) a bowl of something warm and tasty was in order!

What do you get if you mix oats, milk and cocoa powder?

Chocolate porridge of course! I used good old Green and Blacks Organic cocoa powder and topped it with some pistachios and maple syrup to sweeten it up a bit.

I also added a teaspoon of chia seeds, the tiny black almost poppy seed looking things you can see in the picture. I have only just discovered these little miracle seeds, but they seem to be the favoured "super food" at the moment! They give a gel like consistency when mixed with liquid which fills you up for longer, and they have more antioxidants than blueberries! You can read more about them here, at the Wellness Warrior and find lots of yummy recipes, including fudge here, at Delighted Momma. If such a little and inoffensive seed can do so many good things, I'm all for eating it!

Don't worry, I'm not going to go all hippy on you, but lately I have become much more interested in not only what my food tastes like (which let's face it I've always been interested in!) but also the health benefits it can have...green smoothies next...possibly!

I made a little recipe card if anybody would like to try it out - I bought my chia seeds from Holland and Barratt - I believe they're more readily available in the US than here in the UK. You could of course make this with water instead of milk, half and half, or any other type of milk, almond makes good porridge I'm told! Also, it's really quite chocolaty with a whole tablespoon of cocoa, so you may only want half!

I hope you enjoy it!
