Pretty Paper Bunting

Hi everyone! I hope you're all having a lovely lazy Sunday. I'm spending mine continuing to go through my magazine collection, ripping out the bits I want to keep, and recycling the rest.

I thought I'd take a little break to show you something pretty I made recently.

I made this little string of flags to hang from the banister in my bedroom. I'm not a huge fan of the colours together, I would have preferred more muted/pastel shades, and ideally it would be strung along something much prettier like bakers twine or thin ribbon, but you get the idea.

I adapted this idea from a tutorial over at The Yuppie Lifestyle, which I found via 100 Layer Cake. Lily spotted BHLDN's Ribbon Tailed Pennants, and was inspired to make her own. Don't they look great:

You can head over to Lily's blog to get the full tutorial (it's really simple and lots of fun), and all I did was fold the strips of paper along a length of embroidery thread. You could also make them around a skewer, then slide them off and use a needle and thread to string them up, flattening the folds out as you go so they stay put.

I'm going to try doing this with ribbons, ironing and stitching in place to make a decoration that's more permanent, and could be used outside...I'll let you know how it goes!

Also, after you've cut out all the little triangles to make the flag shapes, you're left with a pretty pile of confetti to annoy someone with (I have a boyfriend who hates confetti, bunting, or anything else on string, so he should be pleased!)

  1. I love your idea; it turned out so pretty!
